Social Media Usage as a Candidate- the Dos and Don'ts

Social media has become one of the most universal topics in recent years. There are multiple platforms that people use daily including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, LinkedIn and more. Being that all of the above listed platforms are world-wide, it is important as a candidate to think about what you are posting before it goes live. Follow these tips below when posting on social media:

Is this something you want an employer or colleagues to see?

In this day and age, a simple Google search can bring up past history on people through social media. Be cautious on what you are posting to be sure it is not offensive, inappropriate or does not pose any type of miscommunication. It is important to navigate through social media with a mindset of “who is going to see this” and “how can this post affect me in the future”.

Be respectful

No matter where you are in life, always be respectful. Never post inappropriate or derogatory remarks online. Be sure to be inclusive and friendly in all postings and show compassion. You do not want to come off as having a negative attitude based on a social media posting.

Keep it relevant
