Job Purpose: As Track Assemblers, you will leverage your mechanical skills and expertise to construct full track panels, turnouts, crossings, and other rail components according to precise customer specifications. Working from blueprints, engineering documents, and detailed work instructions, your responsibilities will include manual assembly, fabrication, grinding, and precise fitting of rail components such as frogs, switch rods, switch points, guard rails, and gage plates for final trackwork assembly.

Key Job Elements and Responsibilities:

  • Execute assembly processes for assigned areas in accordance with written work instructions and verbal directives from department supervisors.
  • Utilize designated instruments to inspect completed parts, accurately recording dimensions on quality check sheets.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using measuring devices such as tape measures, scales, torque wrenches, and calipers, ensuring precise measurements to the 1/32 and meticulous recording of inspection data.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, adhering to safety protocols when operating equipment and machinery.
  • Employ various hand tools including grinders, huck guns, and impact wrenches to secure, attach, and fit rail components for the track assembly process.
  • Operate overhead cranes to lift, move, and load track segments during assembly, as well as for loading finished products for shipment.
  • Identify and address quality discrepancies and non-conforming issues, promptly notifying QA and making necessary corrections as per customer requirements.
  • Successfully complete certification for MIG welding and provide training to fellow employees on work processes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, schematics, written work instructions, and other visual aids.
  • Possess prior experience with hand tools, pneumatic and electric powered grinders, impact wrenches, and overhead cranes for transporting rail and rail components.
  • Previous forklift operating experience is preferred.

Qualifications, Experience, Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments, industrial equipment, mechanics, and proficiency in using various hand and power tools and measuring devices.
  • Ability to read a tape measure to the 1/32 and experience using gauges, calipers, etc.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels.
