Position Summary:
The Packaging Technician is responsible for ensuring the correct operation of automatic and semi-automatic packaging equipment in accordance with governing documentation to ensure product is properly packaged and placed into finished goods inventory. The Technician will ensure top and bottom stock, print plates and machine systems are set up according to specified guidelines for identified product.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform shift start up paperwork to ensure effective hand off from previous shift.
Maintain top and bottom stock on each machine. Replace trifoil and seal bead.
Set up and calibrate sensors; make adjustments to machine, seal and tracking of bottom stock.
Maintain ink levels in print trays; clean trays between runs as needed. Replace print plates when color change is performed.
Perform changeovers and complete associated documentation.
Perform preventive maintenance; schedule Building Services and Tool Room as needed. Empty vacuum system to prevent overfill/overflow.
Understand MP, PC, WP, STM and Interim Specifications.
Perform necessary troubleshooting; assist Operators/Leads with material handling and cleanup.
Maintain VP Plex for machine scheduling.
Initiate action to prevent nonconformances; initiate recommendations, provide solutions and verify operational improvements.
Perform all functions of a Team Operator when required.
Assist with training of new Technicians.
Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge & Skills
Automated and semi-automated machinery and process knowledge.
Sound judgment in the execution of technical/troubleshooting issues.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills to facilitate communication at various levels and areas within the organization.
Understanding of computers and computerized controls.
Ability to learn new technologies; understand and perform continuous improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma, or GED required. Technical school background desirable.
Up to 3 years of manufacturing experience. Previous experience with automated and semi-automated equipment preferred.

Work Environment
Work involves use of manufacturing equipment or close proximity to equipment. May be exposed to biohazards and/or chemicals.
Work environment can range from clean room and proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment.
Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. and push/pull up to 80 lbs.
Recurring physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, crouching, climbing, bilateral motion involving hands, wrists, and upper body.
Concentrated visual attention to perform checks on finished packaging.
Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
