Assistant Production Manager
Job Summary:
The Assistant Production Manager supports the Production Manager in overseeing daily operations of the pallet production facility. This role ensures production schedules are met efficiently, supervises staff, maintains equipment, and upholds safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing, leadership skills, and a focus on optimizing productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Production Management:
    • Assist in planning and managing daily production activities to ensure timely fulfillment of orders.
    • Monitor and adjust production schedules to accommodate changes in demand or staffing.
    • Ensure production processes run efficiently and cost-effectively.
    • Identify areas for process improvement and suggest solutions to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Coordinate with the Production Manager to allocate resources and manage workflow to minimize downtime.
    • Oversee and maintain the overall organization of the yard, ensuring materials, pallets, and equipment are stored efficiently and safely. Implement procedures to optimize space and workflow.
  • Team Leadership and Supervision:
    • Provide direct supervision to production staff.
    • Assist in training new employees on production processes, machinery operation, and safety protocols.
    • Motivate and lead the production team to meet or exceed production targets.
    • Address performance issues and collaborate with HR on disciplinary actions when necessary.
    • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations, conducted weekly.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all products meet company quality standards.
    • Conduct routine inspections of machinery, products, and processes to maintain high-quality output.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Enforce strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Conduct safety training and ensure employees follow safety procedures.
    • Monitor the production floor to identify and address safety hazards.
    • Report any accidents or near-misses to the Production Manager and assist in investigations.
  • Equipment and Maintenance:
    • Assist in the maintenance and repair of production machinery and equipment.
    • Monitor equipment performance and conduct preventive maintenance.
    • Minimize downtime by identifying potential issues with equipment before they lead to breakdowns.
 
  • Inventory and Materials Management:
    • Ensure necessary materials and components are available to meet production demands.
    • Assist in monitoring material usage and reducing waste.
  • Communication and Reporting:
    • Provide daily production reports to the Production Manager.
    • Serve as a point of contact for resolving production-related issues when the Production Manager is unavailable.
    • Ensure all team paperwork is completed accurately, thoroughly, and submitted to the office daily. Verify that records are maintained in line with company standards.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, operations management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years of experience in a production environment, preferably in the pallet or lumber industry.
    • Supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in managing production schedules and optimizing workflow.
    • Familiarity with pallet production machinery and equipment.
    • Understanding of safety regulations and quality control standards.
    • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle high-pressure situations.
    • Knowledge of maintenance procedures for production equipment is a plus.
    • Forklift certification or ability to pass certification requirements.
    • Ability to drive delivery trucks; a CDL license is a plus.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
Working Conditions:
  • Standing and walking on the production floor for extended periods.
  • Exposure to loud machinery, sawdust, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50-70 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional overtime of a few hours per week may be required, with occasional work on Fridays.
