Packing Department Associate – Essential Job Functions

  • Product Handling: Work with cooked meat products, such as ham. Tasks involve repetitive hand, arm, and shoulder movements and standing on concrete for 8–12 hours.
  • Lifting and Movement: Lift boxes weighing between 30–60 lbs. Push/pull metal racks of product weighing 800–2000 lbs. (with assistance) and 500–800 lbs. (individually).
  • Inkjet Printer Operation: Arrange products on a conveyor belt to guide them for labeling by an inkjet printer.
  • Labeling: Remove sticky labels from an automatic roll and place them on products moving along a conveyor belt.
  • Weighing and Pricing: Lift products (5–20 lbs.) from the conveyor belt, weigh them on a scale, apply labels, and return items to the belt at a speed of 40 PPM.
  • Casing/Netting Removal: Use a knife to remove the tail clip and casing/netting from products, requiring gripping and pulling at a speed of 10 PPM.
  • Racking: Feed the production line by removing product from flat or press racks (5–35 lbs.), requiring gripping, lifting, twisting, and bending at a 20 PPM speed.
  • Hang Racking: Remove products (10–25 lbs.) from hanging racks by gripping and lifting hams off a notched bar, requiring twisting and bending.
  • Boxing: Place products (5–35 lbs. per piece) into boxes below a stand at 40 PPM. Move full boxes via conveyor to the case sealer and CPA room.
  • Bagging: Push product into a pre-prepared bag, involving repetitive pushing and gripping at a 20 PPM speed.
  • Palletizing: Remove boxed products from the conveyor belt and stack them on an automatic pallet lift, involving repetitive lifting of boxes (8–60 lbs.).
  • Equipment: Work alongside forklifts, pallet jacks, ergonomic stands (4–14 inches high), and assorted conveyors and packaging equipment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Temperature Conditions: Work in cool, damp environments ranging from 32–50 degrees.
  • Ham Steak Handling: Slide, roll, and push product logs (60–65 lbs.) from conveyor to product lift/table. Reach to upper conveyors to move sliced products (3–10 lbs.) to the production line.
  • Product Preparation: Fill plastic pockets with sliced products (1 lb. or less) and feed products (3–5 lbs.) through a plastic netting, requiring repetitive pushing. Lift/slide full product boxes (45–50 lbs.) onto conveyors.
  • Scale Monitoring: Prepare and monitor scales, place labels, and manually reset boxes that may stop mid-process.
  • Rework: Remove products from bins, open sealed bags with a knife, and place them in a vat/hopper. Reworked products are placed back on the conveyor belt.

Shift Schedule:

  • Shift C: Friday through Sunday, 1st Shift, 7:00 am – 5:30 pm
