Local manufacturing company has an opening for a new Mechanical Engineer! This is a direct hire position!
Location: Elmira, NY
Compensation: $70,000 - $100,000 starting salary
Position Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in optimizing and enhancing CNC machining processes by designing and selecting effective tooling solutions. In this role, you will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure efficient and accurate CNC operations, focusing on improving tooling performance, process efficiency, and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Tooling Design & Optimization: Design and refine tooling solutions for CNC machining to achieve high precision, performance, and durability.
- Process Improvement: Analyze CNC machining processes to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost reductions, and increased machine uptime.
- Tool Selection & Maintenance: Select appropriate cutting tools and materials for various operations, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
- CNC Program Optimization: Collaborate with CNC programmers to refine G-code, optimizing tool paths to reduce cycle times and enhance surface finishes.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Diagnose issues related to tooling, setup, or CNC programming and implement corrective actions to improve quality and reduce downtime.
- Education: Associate's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Machine Tool Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in CNC machining, tooling design, or process engineering within a manufacturing setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, CNC programming (G-code, M-code), and tooling selection. Familiarity with tooling design, CNC machine operation, and machining center setup. Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards preferred.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with advanced CNC tools, such as 5-axis machining.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with tool regrinding and optimizing tool life.
