The Mechanical Engineer Temp will carry out engineering assignments concerned with the planning, design and testing of mechanical equipment, systems, and processes. Works cooperatively with other departments. Supports higher level engineers for medium level complexity projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs mechanical equipment, systems and processes. Performs calculations and analyses to ensure suitability of design. Solves problems related to the assembly, repair and test of environmental control systems. Under general supervision, performs assignments which involve responsibility for a secondary project or a part of a major project. Defense or aerospace industry experience desired. Experience in the development of thermal systems is a strong plus. Experience with electrical circuits and control theory a plus. May give directions and/or guidance to junior level engineers, designers and drafters.
Works with colleagues in the department and in other departments. Writes reports as required. Presents designs to peers, other engineers and customers.
Understanding of military specifications, environmental specifications, and test specifications desired. Hands-on test and hardware experience is required. Requires strong oral/written communication skills and must be capable of conducting effective oral presentations to customers. Must be a US Citizen only.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.M.E) from four-year College or University or equivalent. Minimum two years of experience with design, analysis and development of industrial equipment. Knowledge of applied thermodynamics and mechanical design. Knowledge of drawing and drafting standards a plus. Capable of carrying out assignments concerned with mechanical equipment. Works under supervision, performs assignments of medium complexity and may assist senior engineers with more complex assignments.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to communicate in English.
Very good oral and written communication skills. Should be capable of making presentations to customers. Written reports and technical documents are required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as statistics, frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Develops and adapts to new research and development principles for application to product development. Determines nature/scope of testing necessary to meet project goals and requirements.

Work may be independent, but will have interactions with fellow engineers and members from other departments, customers, vendors and corporate management. Should be capable to work individually and independently and under time pressure and lack of resources. Provides technical guidance and assistance to lower level engineers.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Spreadsheets & word processing. CAD proficiency. Knowledge in analysis software is an advantage.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED ON THE JOB:
SolidWorks CAD system. Hand tools.
May use mechanical hand tools when assembling prototypes or test setups.
