Scope of Position:
This position will be responsible for owning the IT-related software associated with at least one manufacturing process step in the Optical Fiber manufacturing plant. In this capacity, he/she will work closely with engineering and operations teams in the plant to implement improvements in this process area.
The person will become the expert for the process controls system in their area of responsibility along with ancillary data feeds to a manufacturing execution system and reporting systems.
The person will also be responsible for developing or modifying other software systems that support manufacturing in the plant such as web-based or stand-alone applications.
When the person leads a project, he/she will be responsible for managing the activities required to meet the project's objectives within the constraints of an allowed budget and a desired timeline.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Assist team of engineers to provide production support and troubleshooting for 24/7 manufacturing operation. Work with production associates, technicians, and engineers to ensure reliable equipment operation via automated control systems and user interfaces.
Support process and product optimization/improvement efforts. Develop plans for innovative solutions to technical problems and follow through to implementation.
Provide training for engineers and/or production associates as needed for new processes, equipment, or control systems.
Lead or participate in capital projects.
Serve on weekend production support team approximately every 5-6 weeks.
Required Skills:
Strong computer programming skills – C
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems, PLC programming, or industrial automation systems
Experience with C#, VB.Net
Experience with iFIX or equivalent SCADA package
Knowledge/experience with Visual Basic 6, C
Desired Skills:
Knowledge to configure and troubleshoot OPC UA, classic OPC, EtherNet/IP devices, and similar industrial protocols
Ability/Experience integrating computers into manufacturing processes to increase efficiencies and lower cost.
Problem-solving and debugging skills; ability to understand real needs behind operations and engineering requests
Ability/experience troubleshooting simple low voltage electrical circuitry.
Knowledge/experience with REST API and web applications.
Knowledge/experience of relational databases (Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server), MSMQ and XML
Off-hours on call on a rotational basis.
Soft Skills:
Knowledge and/or Experience working on MES (Camstar or any Manufacturing Execution System)
Work effectively with a team that helps each other support all IT control systems at multiple plants and the related IT supporting systems.
Communicate and team up with engineering and operations groups in the plant to accomplish plant goals.
