Environmental Specialist
Purpose:
-
Directs & implements the development, and maintenance of a comprehensive environmental and Safety affairs program for the plant.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Plans, implements, and coordinates the plant safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illness, death, and financial losses; develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the plant.
- Ensures compliance with Ohio Occupational Safety and Health Act (OHOSHA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Ohio Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
- Serves as liaison with local health department, Ohio Department of Consumer, and Industry Services (CIS), Ohio Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Recommends and participates in the development of plant safety policies and procedures.
- Inspects all plant facilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements; makes recommendations to minimize potential environmental pollution; conducts related training and educational programs.
- Responds to reports of leaks, spills, and any other releases of potential environmental pollutants; investigates and ensures appropriate corrective action.
- Responds and investigates reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; submits recommendations and/or takes appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Conducts routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of facilities.
- Participates in the development and management of annual operating budgets.
- All other duties as assigned.

- Joint program with local Health Dept for vaccines
- Bachelor's degree in safety, Environmental, or related field required.
- 2 years' experience in safety required with 1-year supervisory experience preferred. Experience ISO 14001/54001 EMS Lead Auditor training.
- Powered Industrial Truck Instructor training, basic electrical safety, and MDEQ regulations experience desired. OSHA regulations, first aid, and CPR trainer experience required.
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
