Assistant Safety Director
A leading company in heavy civil construction, is seeking an experienced Assistant Safety Director to oversee 10 Site Safety Supervisors across our North Carolina operations. This role is crucial in maintaining and improving our occupational safety and health performance across multiple projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of 10 Site Safety Supervisors, ensuring consistent application of safety protocols across all project sites
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures for all construction projects
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement
- Coordinate with the Corporate Safety Department to align site-specific safety plans with company-wide initiatives
- Oversee the investigation of accidents and incidents, ensuring accurate reporting and implementation of preventative measures
- Manage the budget for all safety programs and equipment across multiple sites
- Ensure compliance with OSHA 1926 and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
- Lead safety training programs for Site Safety Supervisors and other employees
- Represent the company during regulatory body audits
- Develop and conduct comprehensive safety training classes for employees at all levels
- Create engaging and informative training presentations on various safety topics
- Travel extensively throughout North Carolina to visit client sites, providing updates on safety requirements
- Conduct regular site visits across the entire state to maintain a consistent safety culture
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction safety, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) certification required
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other safety standards applicable to heavy civil construction
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in safety management systems and data analysis
- Valid state driver's license and ability to travel frequently to multiple project sites
- Comfortable with extensive travel throughout North Carolina
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- OSHA 510 Certification
- OSHA 500/502 Certification preferred
- Competency Trainer certification for Fall Protection, Excavation, and Trenching
- First Aid/CPR certification
