You will engage in all phases of hardware development, from initial concept through to real-world deployment. This role demands a commanding leader capable of fostering strong cooperation across skilled, multidisciplinary, and geographically diverse teams. Close collaboration with top-tier product owners and engineering teams will be crucial to capture business requirements and spearhead comprehensive solutions from start to finish.
Essential Functions:
- Direct and inspire the hardware engineering team, promoting a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Design and develop high-performance, dependable hardware for embedded systems incorporating microcontrollers, sensors, and both analog and digital interface circuits.
- Lead the creation of sophisticated production programmers and testing equipment.
- Translate marketing needs into practical, cost-effective product designs.
- Work in tandem with other development and support divisions to craft cutting-edge products and applications.
- Manage the product's compliance with regulatory standards and certifications such as UL and FCC.
- Guide new products from conception through to manufacturing release and field implementation.
- Engage in strategic and operational planning, including product direction, team resourcing, and budget forecasting.
- Explore and integrate emerging technologies to continuously enhance product offerings.
- Safeguard innovations through rigorous patent documentation and applications.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in hardware development for embedded systems, focusing on digital circuits with some analog involvement.
- At least 5 years' experience managing engineering teams within a product development setting.
- Proven track record with regulatory standards and certification processes (e.g., UL, FCC).
- Experience with Altium PCB Design Software and Solidworks for electrical designs.
- Deep knowledge of best practices in hardware engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to address intricate hardware design challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and motivating engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency with standard communication protocols such as Ethernet, I2C, RS232, RS485, and SPI.
- Proficiency in PCB layout and schematic capture tools (e.g., PADS).
- Firmware development experience for embedded systems.
- Background in Commercial and Industrial lighting control systems.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Knowledge of security measures for embedded systems.
- Experience in wireless communication technologies such as Zigbee, Thread, and Bluetooth Mesh.
- Experience coordinating with teams across multiple locations.
