Requirements include being registered in good standing as a Professional Land Surveyor by the Texas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (TSBPELS), with preference given to those registered in surrounding states like Texas. A willingness to pursue licensure in additional states is necessary.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Carlson is preferred. Experience in a civil engineering environment is also preferred, along with familiarity with Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) survey guidelines and procedures.
Advanced proficiency in surveying computations is necessary, along with knowledge of relevant Texas statutes pertaining to land surveying, land titles or deeds, and grants. Candidates should be adept at reading and interpreting legal documents, land survey drawings, field notes, and engineering plans.
Proficiency in using GPS equipment, total stations, and other electronic surveying tools is required. Advanced field calculations skills are necessary for checking traverse closures, calculating coordinates, and GPS positioning information.
Intermediate-level proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is expected. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are important, along with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Candidates should be committed to ongoing learning to maintain skill levels in a changing technology environment.
