The Controls Technician will report directly to the Engineering Manager. This position will work in cooperation with Operations Personnel, Production Management and Engineering within the Operations and Maintenance departments to support the optimization and safety of the Parker-Meggitt Carbon Facility. This position is responsible for supporting the development of new / current automation projects, troubleshooting system failures and creating / modifying process controls to drive improvements within process efficiencies, product quality and Parker-Meggitt / OSHA Safety Standards.
Job Core Responsibilities
• Support maintenance in troubleshooting and repair of electrical, controls and communications issues within complex processes which include PLC, HMI, motion control, VFDs, DVCs, servo motors/drives and industrial networks
• Read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, various programs and mechanical diagrams including complex automated system drawings
• Support Engineering in developing and designing hardware and software required for automation solutions per specifications
• Perform PLC / HMI software upgrades and perform functional verifications.
• Clearly and concisely document work performed
• Support a 24/7 operation inclusive of day-to-day and project needs on an as-needed basis
• Display a strong awareness of industrial automation / electrical safety.
• Setup and support of industrial instrumentation (valves, transmitters, etc.)
Job Specifications
Education: High school diploma required, associate's degree, Military technical training or vocational training diploma in industrial controls technology preferred.
Experience:
• Required
- 4 years' experience in a related role
- Ability to support Rockwell Allen-Bradley automation hardware / software
• Preferred
- 4 years' experience in an I&E role
- Understanding of Process controls (PID)
- Experience with DCS (DeltaV)
- Experience with Yokogawa controllers
Hard Skills:
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
• Ability to comprehend and compose ladder logic and sequential function charts
• Familiarity with typical field instrumentation (transducers, pressure gauges, flow meters, etc.) and communication protocols
• Working knowledge of commercial electrical codes
• Basic data analysis skills
• Ability to complete the job following all policies or procedures regarding safety, waste handling, and environmental regulations without direct threat or significant risk to the health, safety or environment
Soft Skills:

Work Conditions:
• Job is performed within an industrial Carbon plant environment
• The position will require work to be conducted in an environment where temperatures will be extreme at times
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write.
• Routinely reacts to visual and audible signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
• May work in confined spaces
