Pay Rate: $64.60-$80/hr
Schedule: M-F 8am-5pm
Type: 6 Month Contract (potential of extension)
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• To champion the use of DF/X tools on product development teams
o Consider lowest production costs with design alternatives
o Attempt to eliminate manufacturing/assembly waste with product design
o Ensure products are designed for stable processes that are already in use; if current processes do not meet new requirements, develop new processes concurrently during product development.
• Participate in the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) of all new product development.
• Participate in Manufacturing Risk Assessments and manage Risk Reduction activities.
• Specify new manufacturing capabilities via development of new techniques, or specifying new equipment, tools, fixtures, test equipment.
• Develop process flow charts, work instructions, process sheets, checklists, forms, and other required documentation for detailed product build strategy.
• Responsible for pre-transfer (prototypes & pilots) build quality and delivery commitments.
• Train first round of manufacturing personnel on new capabilities and processes.
• Assess existing manufacturing capability gaps and recommend development activities.
• Solid modeling of fixtures & tools using Creo CAD software
• Set-up, develop processes for, and operate new production equipment
Required Skills:
• BS in Optical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or AAS degree with 10 years experience in the field of Optics
• 3 years experience, preferably in the field of optics
• Knowledge of the manufacture of optical materials, components, and assemblies
• Knowledge of optical metrology equipment including interferometers, profilometers, & autocollimators
• Aptitude for precision hands-on optical and mechanical skills; experience with assembling close tolerance parts that may have unusual shapes or parameters
• Have a drive for continuous improvement and be flexible and willing to learn new things
Ideal candidate would have experience in:
• Optics and optical materials
• Precision machining and measurement
• Precision alignment, positioning, and assembly
• Interferometric testing
• Manufacturing processing
• Experience in precision machining and measurement including CNC equipment and programming; use of G-code
• Experience using 3D solid modeling software; Solid modeling of fixtures & tools using Creo CAD software (or SolidWorks)
• Familiarity with MasterCam
• Experience with process development in an optics shop environment
• Proficiency in Excel is required. Matlab, and other analytical software applications is desired.
• Strong laboratory skills working in a clean room environment.
