Nesco Data Center & Infrastructure is seeking a well balanced Critical Facilities Data Center Engineer in the Greater Ashburn VA area.

We are seeking an experienced Critical Facilities Engineer with a strong background in both mechanical and electrical systems to support our mission-critical data center operations in the greater Ashburn, VA area. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all data center infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical distribution, mechanical systems, and commissioning processes.

The ideal candidate should have a well-rounded understanding of data center operations and the ability to lead small teams while reporting directly to Facility Managers. Additionally, this engineer may be required to work inside customer cages to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, or support tasks for end customers as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Center Operations: Maintain and oversee all mechanical and electrical infrastructure, ensuring 99.999% uptime.
  • Electrical Systems: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, ATS, and backup power systems.
  • Mechanical Systems: Manage HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and Client systems to ensure proper environmental control.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Execute and oversee PM and CM programs to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Commissioning & Testing: Assist in commissioning new systems and equipment, ensuring proper integration and functionality.
  • Emergency Response: Act as a key point of contact during critical incidents, responding to system failures and implementing corrective actions.
  • Customer Cage Support: When necessary, perform tasks inside end customer cages, including equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance while adhering to security protocols.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise small teams, assigning tasks, ensuring compliance with operational procedures, and providing technical guidance.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work meets industry standards, local codes, and safety regulations.
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Work with third-party vendors for service agreements, installations, and repairs.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of system performance, incident reports, and maintenance logs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in a mission-critical facility (data center, hospital, or similar).
  • Strong expertise in mechanical (HVAC, chillers, cooling systems) and electrical (UPS, generators, switchgear, power distribution) systems.
  • Experience with building management systems (Client) and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and working knowledge of NFPA, NEC, and ASHRAE standards.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • EPA Universal Refrigerant License
    • Licensed Electrician or Journeyman certification
    • Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) or similar
    • OSHA 30 certification
  • Ability to work rotational shifts, including weekends and on-call as needed.
  • Ability to comply with strict security and access control policies when working in customer cage environments.
