Product Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
Coordinates prototype production and testing; responsible for completing projects in accordance with customer specifications and within schedule and budget limitations, coordinating activities of contractors and vendors.
Reports to the Product Engineering Manager; may have direct or indirect reporting over Product Draftspersons and Technicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Directs drafting personnel in preparation of drawings, procedures, sketches, etc., necessary for the development of new products.
2. Responsible for Engineering specification database and issue of product specifications.
3. Reviews and evaluates new product design specifications and test requirements, ensuring technical accuracy and cost efficiency.
4. Evaluates and explores new and existing processes, equipment, and materials as an input to scheduling methods, performance metrics and financial standards
5. Recommends raw materials and components; helps develop specifications for product development
6. Oversees production trials for development of new products or processes.
7. Assists the manufacturing department in the development of processes and tooling necessary to simplify/improve manufacturing processes to ensure best practice, building prototypes, identifying issues, and make improvements
8. Responsible for drawing and tooling control systems.
9. Responsible for creating part number and BOMs, as required.
10. Develop and maintain 3D CAD models for assigned programs.
11. Assists with CAD transfers from customers and suppliers, as required.
12. Coordinates with production control to schedule and complete project tasks, as required.

1. Participates in product reviews and process reviews to prevent or resolve product or production difficulties.
2. Utilize principles of mathematics, science, and engineering to streamline processes.
3. Supports QA and TQC by providing engineering drawings and specifications as needed.
4. Supports manufacturing during start-up of new product lines; assists in the development of operations standards
5. Creates and maintains required design process documentation
6. Interfaces with customer engineers and designers to understand and meet their product design requirements.
