Job Title: Production Spray Painter
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Shifts:
2nd Shift: 2:15PM – 10:15PM (Monday-Friday)
3rd Shift: 10:00PM – 6:00AM (Sunday-Thursday)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Production Spray Painter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining spray guns and other painting equipment. In this role, you will prepare part surfaces for coating, apply primers and topcoats, and perform rework as necessary. You will follow company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and customer specifications to ensure the quality and precision of finished painted surfaces. Your contributions will be vital to maintaining high standards of product quality, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and maintain spray guns and various painting equipment.
  • Prepare part surfaces for coating by performing sandblasting, masking, and other surface treatments to ensure proper adhesion of paint.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work orders to determine the type, color, and required coatings.
  • Mix and thin paints to the correct consistency for application.
  • Paint or mount color break areas, decals, and insignias according to customer specifications and blueprints.
  • Apply primers and matte topcoats to interior and exterior surfaces of parts, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • Ensure all surface coatings are applied within required tolerances and specifications.
  • Verify and evaluate the thickness and quality of painted surfaces to determine if the product meets acceptance standards.
  • Perform touch-up and rework, including feathering, shading, and blending primer and matte topcoats using spray guns or brushes.
  • Maintain full understanding of rework procedures and best practices.
  • Keep accurate logs and records of work performed, adhering to customer specifications and company SOPs.
  • Follow safety guidelines, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste generated in the work area.
  • Maintain acceptable labor reporting in BAAN and support Lean initiatives by participating in continuous improvement events.
  • Ensure attendance requirements are met and work overtime as needed to meet production demands.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to set up and operate various spray guns, paint mixers, and other painting equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, work orders, and simple arithmetic (decimals and fractions).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and mylars.
  • Ability to work with precision and attention to detail in the application of paint and coatings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds regularly.
  • Annual baseline hearing test required.
  • Familiarity with industry safety practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment & Safety:

  • 100% manufacturing environment.
  • Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles.
  • Noise level is usually loud, and hearing protection is required in designated areas.
  • Safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and other PPE as required.
  • Full Tyvek suit and supplied air unit required in restricted painting areas.

Required Experience and Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 – 3 years of painting experience preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role, with opportunities to progress to intermediate or expert-level positions based on experience and performance.
