Director of Accounting and Payroll Operations

Nesco Resource is partnering with a growing organization to fill their Director of Accounting and Payroll Operations role. This leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to manage all accounting operations, oversee payroll, and drive the development of accounting policies and internal controls.

The ideal candidate will be confident, polished, data-driven, and resilient—someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment and can collaborate effectively with leadership at all levels.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead the monthly financial close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting

  • Oversee the payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate processing in compliance with all regulations

  • Manage the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and proper classification of all transactions

  • Coordinate with external auditors to prepare for the annual audit, including Form 990 filings

  • Support the development and enforcement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

  • Work closely with department heads and other stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting

  • Analyze budget vs. actual variances and provide insights to leadership for decision-making

  • Assist with the preparation of tax returns and other financial documents

  • Stay updated on GAAP changes and ensure company practices comply with regulations


What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting and payroll experience, including leadership roles

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting

  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems and strong analytical skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams

  • Preferred: Experience in higher education or non-profit accounting environments
